When I decided it was time to refresh my brand, I knew I didn’t just want a new logo or a different colour palette. I wanted something that truly reflected how my business has evolved – from traditional admin and bookkeeping support to a more exploratory, solutions-focused partnership with clients.
So, instead of going to a design agency, I decided to collaborate with someone closer to home – my son’s girlfriend.
She’s just finished university with a Fine Art degree and, like many graduates, she’s at that exciting (and slightly daunting) stage of figuring out where her creative path might lead. She’s talented, curious and naturally drawn to design – and I thought, what better way for us both to learn than by working together?
For me, this collaboration brought one of my core values – continuous learning – to life. I’ve always believed that learning doesn’t stop once you’re “established”. There’s always something new to discover, whether it’s a fresh way of presenting your brand, a new process that makes life simpler, or simply seeing your business through someone else’s eyes.
Working with her has reminded me how powerful it can be to combine different perspectives. Her artistic instincts challenged me to think more visually and emotionally about my brand, while my structure, process-driven mindset helped turn her creative ideas into a cohesive, usable identity. Together we found a balance – creativity with clarity, heart with practicality.
The result? A brand that finally feels like me – hands-on, approachable, and quietly confident – with a sense of exploration and growth running through everything.
But more than that, it’s been a reminder of why I love collaboration in all its forms. Whether it’s with clients, peers, or family, there’s always something new to learn when you open yourself up to working with others rather than just for them.
So here’s to new beginnings – and to learning, together, in unexpected ways.
